In Memory of John Green
December 12, 2016 Article Uncategorized
We are all mourning the loss of fellow member John Michael Green who passed away suddenly on December 5th, 2016 at his home.
John has been a member of the RS&N for many years and was one of our Board Directors. He was instrumental in the organization having radio communications on the whole line from Red Springs to Parkton, he also was responsible for the chain link fencing at our engine terminal and facility. It seems as though John had a hand in many of our activities and accomplishments, he was always ready to work on whatever needed to be done from cutting trees to working on track and switches to any number of things. He was our voice of reason at board meetings, our third opinion when we were bickering or arguing over something, his contribution and advice was always well respected. He was an avid photographer and recorded many of our events and work days, he also enjoyed amateur radio and his Harley Davidson motorcycle and surely not least he enjoyed his 2 motorcars when he could find the time.
John became a good friend to all of us over the years and it will be hard to carry on without thinking of him every time we are on the railroad. He not only leaves a big personal family but also a big family in all of his hobbies, he was well liked and will be missed for a long time. RS&N had 13 members attend his funeral on Saturday, December 10th and we were well received and recognized by his family who thanked us for thinking of him. For the present moment, we are dedicating our 4 nights of Christmas Trains to John, an event he always looked forward to! Please take a moment to share in John’s life and to remember one of our most dedicated members.
RIP my friend, may you now have clear blocks to the final terminal,
