Service: <\/strong>Norfolk Southern used this car to maintain the Albemarle Sound trestle between Mackey\u2019s and Edenton.  This was the longest trestle (26,664 ft.) east of the Mississippi River.  This car was assigned to the bridge maintenance gang.  It became surplus when the trestle was abandoned in late 1987.<\/p>\n

Motorcar activities we enjoy:\"TomandElsa-Rides\"<\/strong>  The A6 is large enough for several people to ride together.  We have enjoyed riding with our friends on the Great Smoky Mountain RR. Also each year we go to Railfan Days at the North Carolina Transportation Museum were we are able to introduce rail fans to motor riding.  Our most enjoyable events have been associated with the Red Springs and Northern Foundation.  The A6 has been used for several years to pull the 8 car train of passengers for Railfan Days, Halloween rides, and Christmas light rides.  We have ridden as many as 80+ riders on some of these  rides.  We enjoy these activities with our friends.<\/p>\n

History of Car (Original Owner\/Area of Service): <\/strong>Manufactured 1947, Sold to Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (never was a SAL car), delivered to Waycross GA from Fairmont in 1947. Has 5-8HP 2 cycle ROC engine with belt pulley drive. Used for track inspection, signal maintenance and light track repair. Runs top speed low to mid 30s MPH. Rated 1-4 men, 1 trailer. Car has not been repainted since SCL rebuild in 1990<\/p>\n

What Do You Enjoy About Your Car: <\/strong>It is older than I am, simple, relatively quiet because of muffler, easy to load and unload, easy to turn around, smokes and loud exhaust, yellow color and has cab to protect me from the weather.\"DSC_0776\"<\/a><\/p>\n

History of Car (Original Owner\/Area of Service): <\/strong>My car <\/strong>was delivered to the Southern Railway in Charlotte on June 12, 1952.  My friend’s brother got it from Norfolk Southern when he retired in 2000-2001. He wanted to restore it but never got started; he passed away in 2011. My plan is to restore it and put it back on the rails like he wanted. Fulfill his wish, make him proud.<\/p>\n

History of Car (Original Owner\/Area of Service): <\/strong>Manufactured in 1952.  I purchased this car from Phil Gandy in 2005.  Believe it was owned by Seaboard Coast Line.  Spent several years doing a frame up restoration of the car and enjoyed this experience very much.  I learned a lot about motorcars from some really great people in this obscure hobby we love so much.  I treasure those friendships.<\/p>\n

What Do You Enjoy About Your Car: <\/strong> I enjoy the nostalgic sound and feel of a 2 cycle car speeding down the track.  Open air cars are the equivalent of a motor cycle in many ways.  The people involved in this hobby are a great collection of personalities, the people are what makes this all so fun.<\/p>\n

Other Cars in Your Collection:  <\/strong>I have several more cars that I hope to restore.  Two  M-19-AA’s (2 cylinder 2 cycle), an MT-14, and a rare MR-19.<\/p>\n

My railroading started at a very early age watching trains in my hometown in NJ, that progressed to years of picture taking around the country, ownership of 3 private railcars at one time or another, then changing gears a bit and getting into the motorcar hobby  Presently I am proud to be the president of our own RS&N Foundation keeping things on the right track and moving into the future, I also work at the Clinton Terminal Railroad in Clinton,NC as an engineer and conductor. I am also very blessed to have a wife who enjoys railroads and railroading almost as much as I do!<\/p>\n

Other Cars in Your Collection: <\/strong>Canadian Cab MT-14 and another motorcar and various other pieces of equipment that are kept in our 30×50 motorcar workshop on our property! \"Diana<\/a><\/p>\n

Here is our second car, a Canadian Cab MT-14 which we rebuilt completely. This shot was taken on a trip in Pa. on the Lackawaxen & Stourbridge Line. This car is unique in it has 4 coats of fireboat red Awlgrip marine paint on it. Yes, the car went to a marina to be painted! It was quite the conversation piece while it was there.<\/p>\n

History of Car (Original Owner\/Area of Service):<\/strong> I don’t have much history on the car.  I bought it from a guy in New Mexico who had the car for fifteen years or so.  He had salvaged it from a scrap heap in Southern California and stored it in the desert for the time he owned it.  I bought the car in the spring of 2014 and took two and one-half years to refurbish and repair the car.<\/p>\n

What Do You Enjoy About Your Car:  <\/strong>The ability to go and see stuff that you wouldn’t see from the road.<\/p>\n

History of Car (Original Owner\/Area of Service):  <\/strong>Manufactured in 1958? and the original owner was Seaboard Air Line. This car has been owned by: Robin Eanes, John Green, Jim Fetchero, John Shefte. And is now owned by John Shefte and Seth Gartner. I was told that the car started out as SAL 262, in GA, later SCL 262, It is now back to it’s roots as SAL 262. It was the first motor car to make it from Red Springs to Parkton under it’s own power after hurricane Mathew. The motor in now an Onan.<\/p>\n

What Do You Enjoy About Your Car:  <\/strong>Everywhere that I take it, it draws attention for people. It is fun to ride the rails at the RS&N, NCTM, and NARCOA excursions.<\/p>\n
